Papers consist of correspondence, biographical material, and photographs primarily discussing her travels in England, France, Germany, Italy and Switzerland. Also includes letters by Kendall and Plimpton family relatives and "The Kendall Book" by Priscilla Robertson.</abstract>

         <head>Biographical Note</head>
         <p>Clara Idella Plimpton was born on December 30, 1848 in Walpole, Massachusetts.  She graduated from Mount Holyoke in 1871 and married Henry L. Kendall in 1875.  He was a clergyman and a graduate of Brown University.  They had two children: Helen (Mount Holyoke College, Class of 1900) and Henry (Amherst College, Class of 1899).  Idella Plimpton Kendall died on January 23, 1941 in Walpole, Massachusetts.</p>

         <head>Scope and Contents of the Collection</head>
         <p>The collection consists of correspondence; biographical material; and photographs. Most of the letters are by Kendall to family members describing her travels in England, France, Germany, Italy and Switzerland, from July 1869-May 1870.  Also included are several letters by Kendall and Plimpton family relatives.</p>
