         <head>Historical Note</head>
         <p>The Women's Christian College was founded in 1915 in Madras, India.  In 1920 it became a sister college to Mount Holyoke.  Many Mount Holyoke graduates have since gone on to teach there.  The College specializes in nutrition, and advises other schools on diet for students with limited means.  It also has advised the military on making healthy foods which will not spoil.</p>

         <head>Scope and Contents of the Collection</head>
         <p>The Women's Christian College Records contain minutes from College Council Meetings 1924-74, information on two daughter colleges, publications, Mount Holyoke Alumnae files, materials concerning anniversaries 1915-65, and photographs.  The two daughter colleges are Christa Seva Vidhyalaya and St. Christopher's Training College, both in Madras, India.  The publications include issues of "College News" from 1949-58, various issues of the "Principal's Journal," and the 1982/83 Principal's Report.  The Mount Holyoke College Alumnae files mostly contain fundraising brochures.</p>
