Monsignor Paul J. Hayes was born September 26, 1922 in West Orange, New Jersey. After being ordained from Immaculate Conception Seminary in 1948 he spent three years at Newark's Queen of Angels Parish and then two years as assistant pastor at S1. John's in Jersey City. During this time he produced three educational films The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, The King's Highway and A Gateway to Faith. In 1948 Msgr. Hayes joined his brother Rev. Edward J. Hayes as co-author on books and pamphlets which served as education models in faith and morals. In December 1953 he was appointed to the National Catholic Office For Motion Pictures in New York City, where he served four years as an executive secretary. He then worked for two years as Associate Director of the Archdiocese of Newark Communications Office, becoming its director in August 1965. In December of 1965 he was elevated to the title of Very Reverend Monsignor. He became pastor ofSt. Patrick's in Jersey City in 1969 and then pastor of Our Lady of Peace on April 19, 1975. Msgr. Hayes also served as counselor and taught re ligion, became chaplain of East Orange high school and later held teaching positions in theology and medical ethics at Seton Hall University, his alma mater.
