Gilbert Acker Hitz was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. He attended The Catholic University of America from 1922 to 1926 as a philosophy student. While at CUA, he was involved in the Utopian Club (Vice-President senior year), The International Relations Club, The CUA University Branch of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (A.S.M.E), the "C" Club, the CUA chapter of the Knights of Columbus, The Tower student newspaper (junior year), the Cardinal student yearbook, track (junior and senior years), and was a cheerleader (sophomore through senior years).

Upon graduation from CUA, he moved back to Cleveland, OH and lived there until his death.

 Scope and Contents

This collection is comprised of three oversize photographs and clippings from 1922 to 1927, and memorabilia, including a felt hat, a Utopian banner, and a Utopian Club directory, circa 1922-1926, and 1931.

This collection is divided into three series: 1) Photographs, 2) Clippings, and 3) Memorabilia.

The Gilbert A. Hitz Collection consists of three series:

There are no access restrictions on this collection.

 Restrictions on Use

The oversize photographs are rolled, and while they can be somewhat unrolled to view, they should not be forced flat to scan before additional preservation work is performed.
